Welcome to The Rite Source
The Rite Source was established in 2007 to offer individual, family and group bereavement counseling centered on a simple set of ritual resources adapted from Japanese memorial rites known as hōji. We hope to assist in transforming the experience of grieving from a heavy, lonely pursuit into a ritually-grounded, socially-supportive, spiritually transformative sequence of events.
In addition to individualized counseling, we offer instruction in the rites to professionals in various callings, including clergy, psychologists, nurses, and funeral directors.
We also conduct research on the manner in which the rites are being adapted in the North American context and in what way this affects individual experiences of grieving, the culture at large, how it might inform psychological theory and enrich the diverse philosophical and theological understandings of people following the rites.
Gift certificates are available. Consider giving the gift of a consultation to a friend who has recently (or not-so recently) experienced loss.
We hope you will contact us with any questions you might have as to how we might serve you.
